seen on fb- witches

"who knows why we were taught to fear the witches, and not the ones who burned them alive?"

and damn it, i will think about that question til i die.
i come from witches, a little surprise i got when i traced my family tree.
dont know if any were murdered, but i do believe my family has a banshee. they are said to be the ghosts of murdered women, as we'll as women who died in childbirth.
i didnt used to believe in any of that, but now i do. and quantum physics has shown that it is possible that time in not immutable, so....

so, yeah, i take this question damn personally.

eta a comment i made on fb-
when i started my farm, i used to say i was living in a disney movie. one neighbor accused me of bringing crows back to the block. like it was a bad thing. and rats, even tho i had none. classic fear of the crone. and i had property and money, and had dumped my husband. BIG check. i checked all the boxes to get myself hanged in salem.

6. "You have to be carefully taught"

From the movie “South Pacific”.

Babies aren’t born racist. It takes careful training to make people hate other people.

The fear is a feature of the hate training.

2. The hatred, demonizing, disrespect and deep fear of females is a massive part of human history.

It’s real and pervasive still.

3. If you perceive that something is going wrong, you need someone to blame it on.

That is the total history of our world.

We should pay more heed to the great philosopher, Jimmy Buffet, who finally reached the decision, that it was his own damn fault.

4. Thou shalt not suffer a witch to live!

Yeah. You can’t say it without sounding stupid and no one says that about molesting priests. I always wondered about that.

While I do not share the magical side, I do share the friends and family plan. I met some very nice witches from a local coven in Salem. I found them engaging, responsive and deeply informed. They were wonderful helping us navigate the museum covering the witch trials and gave us an in-depth view, not only of events but of the lacking in the individual displays at the museums and how much of it was for for tourist effect instead of actual history. I offered to send them a card in thanks but they would not tell me the name of their coven or any way to reach them. I understood and I left them a nice tip.

Your neighbor problem is likely more that you are from out of town and not a local. I saw that first hand in various towns in New England where everybody knows everybody else and again in Pennsylvania where everybody appears to be a cousin of everybody else and conversations generally start with, “I think you may be related to my cousin...” and things naturally take off from there. Turns out they actually are cousins.

It helps if you bake and you take a pie and visit, especially the local gossips. Staves off the burning another day, anyway Birds of prey help with crows - there is a bird of prey outfit online called falconforce.com or you might google “how to attract birds of prey to my yard” - either will help you with crows.

I personally do not consider crows bad luck. These are very intelligent birds with a history of displaying excellent counting skills and problem-solving intelligence. You can google that, too, it’s incredible. Like other animals, they do need to be managed as they like to eat regularly, too and that’s frequently in conflict with farming for profit.
