Feminist fetus scouts of America?

Move over, Al-Quada—there's a new terrorist organization pit-pattering across American soil. They're going door-to-door, poisoning unsuspecting consumers with their boxes of Thin Mint Bra Burning and Tagalong to Soviet Russia treats. They're the Girl Scouts and they're after your unborn fetuses, sexuality and freedom.

Indiana can rest easy, however, because Republican Rep. Bob Morris of Fort Wayne is on the front lines of defense, armed with good ol' fashioned ignorance. He spoke out against the organization during their 100th anniversary last week, stating that the Girl Scouts were "quickly becoming a tactical arm of Planned Parenthood" and have been "subverted in the name of liberal progressive politics and the destruction of traditional American family values" by supporting "feminists, lesbians or Communists."

Oh, and those fundraising pint-sized rebels are "radically pro-abortion" too.

Realizing that his comments might send the Girl Scouts into a baby-slaughtering frenzy, he retracted his criticism (kind of) by providing a touching apology to the Journal Gazette. Morris said he shouldn't have "painted the entire Girl Scouts organization with such a wide brush," but that his conscience wouldn't allow him to stand by a group that "partners with Planned Parenthood—[the state's] leading abortion provider."

went up to a 10 year old girl scout (or brownie, whatever 10 year olds are) and told her about PP killing babies. The poor, terrified girl went damn near into hysterics when she told her mother she was helping kill babies.

The fight over this is nonsensical enough, but at least KEEP THE CHILDREN OUT OF IT!

3. Girl Scouts don't have the organizational God-blather and homophobia that Boy Scouts do.

I think that's the crux of the issue.

They had no idea what an abortion was or even what birth control was at the time.... most girls don't go further than the end of elementary school in the girl scouts.

I think they don't like the "girl power" message that girls are given. It "gives them ideas of equality", you know!

in the tweens to teens age group who have feminist ideas are Girl Scouts. It's not a foregone conclusion--my little hellspawn hasn't ever been a Scout, but is definitely a feminist--but you're right, the "girl power" message does seem to have a positive effect.

6. My mother started a Brownie troop in our town because we didn't have one.

And when the members became old enough she passed it on to a friend and started one for the girl scouts. Our small town had cub scouts, webelos and a boy scout troop but nothing for the girls.

Now remember this was back in the very early 70's in Kentucky. All the girls in the troop were white so my mother went to the elementary school to see if she could get some African American girls to join and she did (and let me tell you this raised some eyebrows with the other mothers, mainly because of their husbands). My mother took all to task over this incident & even though some of the white girls were taken out of the troop, my mother in this small town got woman thinking what was best for their daughters & not their husbands.

My mother took a lot of abuse over this and she never gave up the fight to include all who wanted to join. Overtime my mother got woman thinking about what was right for them & their daughters and addressing something in this small town that was sorely needed.

My mother is a feminists and way back then she stood up for what was right no matter what the cost to her was (I would also like to add she instilled this into all of her boys as well).

Hope this story makes sense to the younger crowd here.

Cheers
Bill
