After hearing about how great cacao is, I bought some. I decided to do a bit of research at the last minute. What I found was that aside from its health benefits, it's supposedly the most addictive substance there is (which I wonder about), and it's toxic to the kidneys if eaten habitually.

as destructive as heroin, alcohol, cocaine, barbiturates, and nicotine. People try to claim it is, but it's not. Nor is caffeine. Caffeine is somewhat addictive, but doesn't destroy bodies and lives the way the top five do.

because of a little phenomenon called tachyphylaxis, which is far greater than for any of the other substances in the list, including heroin. That first hit off that first cigarette lights up all those addictive pathways like a country church on Wednesday night.

Heroin remains the antidrug crusaders' bogeyman because of its huge dependency rate, which they are conflating with addiction.

They said that quitting cigarettes was harder than quitting heroin.
