I've even put my elbow over my face to really bring home my point. Actually, most people act embarrassed and hurry by, but some act like "what?".

But I'd also keep in mind the amount of times I've been embarrassed about a cough (sip of water down the wrong pipe) that I just couldn't control in public. Same thing with that (totally unexpected, out of nowhere) sneeze that had the whole world looking my direction.

Where my behavior/reaction might differ nowadays .. is if a co-worker is coughing at work. I'd be much more inclined to tell that person's supervisor, "John needs to go home!" Other than that .. since I don't really do public assaults or verbal confrontations ....

Self protection is the action step...go the other direction...maybe apply a second mask if it is a surgical mask you are wearing...keep walking the other direction...

While I was standing in line at least 6-8 feet away from other customers, the gentleman in front of me was about to sneeze, so he lowered the mask covering his mouth and then turned away from the two women in front of him, towards me!

While some of the blast went into his jacket sleeve, there was a good portion that scattered in my direction. I think he realized he made a mistake after my looking at his apologetic smile.
