South Carolina measles outbreak is 'accelerating,' driving hundreds into quarantine

The measles outbreak in South Carolina is “accelerating” with no end in sight following Thanksgiving and other large gatherings, state health officials said Wednesday.

As of Wednesday, 111 measles cases had been reported in what’s known as upstate South Carolina — an area in the northwest of the state that includes Greenville and Spartanburg.

The spread of measles is not isolated to South Carolina. On Wednesday, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reported a total of 1,912 measles cases so far in 2025.

Outbreaks in the Western U.S. are ongoing: 176 in Arizona and 115 in Utah, according to state health officials. One of the Utah cases occurred at a child care facility with a high school in Salt Lake County.

4. Have to wonder if grandparents or others with standing could not sue the parents for neglect/ willful endangerment?

I know if I grew up, having been stricken by some preventable disease as a child and if I had lingering issues therefrom, I'd be real open to suing my parents for damages. Most of us I suppose would give our parents a pass, but maybe not. And insurance companies that have costs that could have been avoided by a vaccine they gladly would have paid for may also have basis of a claim. That will cause some to think....maybe.

So good luck with sick kids, time off work to care for them, doctor bills, meds. The worst part is..they think this is freedom of choice but their decisions infringe on others who want to be healthy.

5. If their kids ONLY get sick, they're lucky.

My cousin was left with brain damage after she had the measles as a baby, before vaccines. She was lucky to be alive.

Yeah, we all had the measles in our family and got well. But it’s no guarantee. It’s quite a risk these dumbass parents are taking.

6. This nonsense will not end until a sufficient number of lives have been lost or ruined due to these anti-vax cretins.
