1. I see ratings right now for both movies and tv shows

They are an aggregator and sometimes a positive rating can reflect a mediocre reaction to the film. A high score could reflect a bunch of mediocre positive ratings while a movie that engenders a strong reaction - sometimes positive and sometimes negative - might have a lower rating but be worth more of your time to watch. You might hate a movie, then think about for a while and come to a different conclusion. Even watching a movie you hate might change your perspective on a particular topic.

Ultimately Rotten Tomatoes is owned by Comcast, which bought most of it in 2016.

I used to se the critics rating and the users rating at the top. Now I only see a thumbnail of the Movie DVD. It includes reviews, but not the ratings/scores.
