What's your opinion of Neflix series Emily in Paris?

I thought I give it a watch to see if it's any good. So what do you think?

The female boss was supposed to be fluent in French and that's who was expected. BTW, I enjoyed the show.

I found it fun and light hearted with gorgeous clothes and beautiful scenes in Paris (one of my favorite cities).

Do you like other series in this genre? Or is The whole genre not up your alley?

...fashion world underdogs.

That's why I wanted to give it a try. I was hoping it was going to be like that. Instead it was the worst kind of American exceptionalism, snobbishness, and arrogance, while pretty much denigrating everything French.

I think it's telling that French people, as a whole, hated it if YouTube comments are any indication.

Here are a few:
"I’m from France the funniest part of this series is when the French people were speaking in English to each other. That is impossible ..."

"As a Parisian myself, this kind of movie makes me so embarassed."

"Can't wait for Emily in Spain, where everyone wears sombreros and eat tacos because Americans think Spain is in Mexico"

"bruh this emily girl feels alot like a colonizer to me; she literally goes to someone elses country and demands everyone to adjust for her and she tries to show them that what theyve been doing since forever is wrong and that america is the best. "

"I think Emily is the perfect example of a privileged American White girl. They often do go through life being an awful person who never gets checked for it."

"- Doesn't care to understand other cultures
- Doesn't care to learn other languages
- Thinks she's always right and everyone should adapt to her vision
- Thinks she's the good one and everybody loves and respects her just for the country she's from
- Feels like her culture and way of life is better and more advanced than any other
- Thinks nothing is wrong with all the points above"

I can see how both the French and Americans could take offense. I looked at it like satire/hyperbole comedy stereotypical characterizations of both the arrogant American and snobbish French. I thought it was pretty even handed on exaggerating both cultures.

I love Paris and have been fortunate enough to go 10 or so times. Half for vacations and half for work and have run into the epitome of both stereotypes

I also loved Devil Wears Prada. I will check out After the Ball.

I'm always liking things a lot more than the critics do. I've been accused of liking everything and having no taste because of it. But it's not true. I don't like everything. I didn't like Battlefield Earth, I didn't like Zontar: The Thing from Venus, and I didn't like Emily in Paris.

Beyond that, I can't think of any other movie I didn't like. There may be one or two, but I can't think of them offhand. So it's not like I go around hating on movies and TV shows. It's just that this was really crap.

By way of comparison, just watch Emily, and then watch Upright. Decide for yourself which one is great and which one is trash.

of venom. I suppose half the things I've watched over the years have been forgettable. Horrible, even. Think Ed Wood.

I just don't get the impulse to argue how bad it is.

Yeah, I know there are websites that thrive on rottenness, but none of them bothered to turn on the Hallmark channel.

also enjoy seeing some of the French scenery. It is a bit flighty, but a nice break from the dramas I've been watching. Also amazed at Emily's wardrobe. Stunning but sometimes crazy. All in all an easy 30+ minute watch.
