Disney+ Orders "Muppets Mayhem" Series

Streaming giant Disney+ has handed out an official green light for the comedy series “The Muppets Mayhem” starring Lilly Singh and the Muppets.

“The Goldbergs” creator Adam F. Goldberg developed and is writing the series with “Muppets” alums Bill Barretta and Jeff Yorkes heavily involved and executive producing.

The series will follow The Electric Mayhem Band, the old-school Muppet band who set out to record their first studio album in the current day music scene.

Singh will play the (human) lead role of Nora, a driven junior A&R executive tasked with managing and wrangling the band. The bands regular Muppets include Dr. Teeth, Floyd Pepper, Janie, Zoot, Lips and Animal.

IMO most Muppet ventures have paled in comparison to those produced under creator Jim Henson, especially The Muppet Show (1976-1981). ABCs brief series, The Muppets (2015-2016) came the closest.

I've always thought the Muppets were best in short sketch scenarios. It allowed for Henson and Company to be at their most creative and zany.
