Derek: Ricky Gervais comic drama coming to Netflix tonight
http://www.sfgate.com/tv/article/Derek-review-Nice-comedy-with-edge-of-sadness-4803085.phpDerek: Comic drama by Ricky Gervais. First season available for streaming at 12:01 a.m. Thursday on Netflix.
Derek has two best friends, his work colleague and landlord, Dougie (Karl Pilkington, "Extras"
, a deeply sad and lonely man who is never convincing when he dismisses the possibility of ever being happy; and Kev (David Earl, "Cemetery Junction"
, a complete mess of a human being whose repulsive obsession with sex actually hides an abyss of self-hatred.
How's that for a comedy setup?
Believe it or not, "Derek" is a comedy of sorts, but the kind of comedy TV doesn't do very often: the comedy of pathos.

(146,218 posts)2. I binged last night and watched the entire series.
I don't want to give anything away, so I'm not going to say much.
Wasn't quite sure what to make of it as I watched the pilot, but it got better and better. I laughed and cried during each of the 7 episodes and was an open tap during the final one.
I thought it was brilliant and will watch it again at some point.
Highly recommended.

I've laughed at pretty much everything he's ever done. His interviews with Jon Stewart - well the two of them together was to awesome for words!
Cant wait to check this out, as soon as I'm done with Scandal season two.
