Well, we dove into Breaking Bad - restarted Netflix streaming to get episode 1 - wow!
Those of you who knew we would like it...you are correct! Gritty, tough, fascinating (where to draw the various individual lines of personal hypocrisy), great acting and writing.
Highly recommended - we are at approx 6th episode of season 1...and anticipate blowing through it quickly!

(20,886 posts)You have a firm contract and a firm plan for a set number of episodes/seasons. Most shows do a pilot, which if picked up, is then written season to season, the writers never knowing if it will continue beyond the present season.
Shows that are picked up for subsequent seasons frequently suffer from the "OMG! They liked us, but what will we do now" syndrome. Shows that are unexpectedly dropped end up with unintended cliff hangers leaving fans with WTF syndrome. Once in a while dropped shows are able to cobble together a final episode to give the fans closure, but all of the above leave us with less than the quality TV that Breaking Bad has provided.

(1,576 posts)For me it had the power of a Shakespearian tragedy. The story, the characters, (and though Bill had to work on stage. if he had cameras his works would have been as skillfully photographed as Breaking Bad)
enjoy!

(2,921 posts)The persona's were extremely realistic in a fascinating and creepy way (Walt's is found without rarity in the scientific community).
I really liked most of the videography as well.
I may have to buck up for season 6 as a xmas treat.

(24,096 posts)We just finished 5 and wow. thoroughly mind blowing.
Is season 6 being filmed right now? any idea - trying to find out if there is more to come - it's like they say meth is, obsessive and addictive.
o I despise Walt soooooooo much. His lizard eyes, his reptile mouth... but I digress.

(2,921 posts)I didn't have as much of a problem with Walt's appearance as the character he developed. I think a psych major could easily demonstrate the similarities with many of the politicians we have walking the streets of DC...

"Conception
Breaking Bad was created by Vince Gilligan, who spent several years writing the Fox series The X-Files. Gilligan wanted to create a series in which the protagonist became the antagonist. "Television is historically good at keeping its characters in a self-imposed stasis so that shows can go on for years or even decades," he said. "When I realized this, the logical next step was to think, how can I do a show in which the fundamental drive is toward change?"[14] He added that his goal with Walter White was to turn him from Mr. Chips into Scarface.[15][21][22] The concept emerged as Gilligan talked with his fellow writer Thomas Schnauz regarding their current unemployment and joked that the solution was for them to put a "meth lab in the back of an RV and [drive] around the country cooking meth and making money."[23]
Gilligan said, before the series finale, that it was difficult to write for Walter White because the character was so dark and morally questionable: "I'm going to miss the show when it's over, but on some level, it'll be a relief to not have Walt in my head anymore."[24] Gilligan later said the idea for Walter's character intrigued him so much that he "didn't really give much thought on how well it would sell", stating that he would have given up on the premise since it was "such an odd, dark story" that could have difficulties being pitched to studios.[23] As the series progressed, Gilligan and the writing staff of Breaking Bad made Walter increasingly unsympathetic.[15] Gilligan said during the run of the series: "He's going from being a protagonist to an antagonist. We want to make people question who they're pulling for, and why."[21] Cranston said by the fourth season: "I think Walt's figured out it's better to be a pursuer than the pursued. He's well on his way to badass."[22] Gilligan defines the term "breaking bad" as "to raise hell".[25

(24,096 posts)Walt's physical features only became repulsive to me when his soul switched to evil. I couldn't stand looking at the freak as he exemplified the lowest of human qualities to me. So I guess the actor did a great job as well as the creators.
I will check around and see if any of our stores have season 6 cuz we gots to know more!
