Crime show recommendations
So far, I've liked "Tin Star", "Luther", "The Fall", "Broadchurch". "Fallet" is excellent, too - it's about a British detective and a Swedish detective who have to work together. I also watched the "Dragon Tattoo Trilogy" in the original Swedish. I've also watched a bunch only to turn them off because they were so lame.
What do people recommend I watch next? What are your favorite crime dramas?

(24,926 posts)It's on Netflix. It's a Welsh show about murders in Mid-Wales. It's produced in both Welsh and English (filmed twice, one for each language). Netflix only has the English version.

(10,749 posts)In no particular order:
Unforgotten, on PBS (British) - watching now - bit of a new take on cold cases - liking it.
Grantchester (British) - a more serious version of Father Brown
Crossing Lines (European) - you have to overlook the shortcomings and have a robust willing suspension of disbelief
The Tunnel (British and French) - my favorite in this group, mainly because of Clemence Poesy - she could read the phone book and I'd watch it.
Bordertown (Finnish) - Quirky but good - as with The Tunnel you find yourself looking at IMDB for other shows these actors have been in.
Borderliner (Swedish) - okay
Doctor Blake (Australian) - much lighter than the others - doctor helps police in small Australian town
Father Brown (British) - priest helps police in small British village
Deep Water (Australian) - be patient - I had to try it twice before I got past the first episode
Hinterland (Wales) - very moody, at times irritating, but I liked it
Shetland (Shetlandish) - The current season is the best so far
Collateral (British) - Short series, leaves you shaking your head how disparate events are intertwined and affect the lives of so many people
River (British) - quirky - Liked this too
The Frozen Dead (French) - Watched in winter, seemed appropriate
Sniffer (Ukrainian) - really quirky - you get into it and can't believe you're watching Ukrainian TV
La Mante (French) - twists and turns, moody, intelligent

(813 posts)We looked to find other things the actor who plays Jean was in.
So then we accidentally binge all of City Homicide on Hulu. But we called out the Not Jean Show.

(16,784 posts)This series is set in Aberystwyth, Wales. We stayed there for 5 days in October of 2015.
The main character is as brilliant, but emotionally broken London Dectective Inspector who moves to Wales, solves murders.
This Dectective has twin daughters. You do not see them in the series, but you see their photo. These were the twin daughters of our airbandb hosts we stayed with for those wonderful 5 days.

Next year my husband and I will spend over two months in the UK - and at least a week in Aberyswyth to do research at the National Library of Wales. We'll also visit that village to see if the church has any records for us.
One of the places used in the Hinterland series, the Devil's Bridge, is near there and we plan to see it.

(1,148 posts)American version. Not a lot of crime in it, just one big crime, but good drama nonetheless.

Spring Tide | Springfloden Season 1
I watched it on MHz, but I'm pretty sure I've seen it listed on Netflix, as well.
I especially liked how the homeless are portrayed in this series, as fully fleshed out humans, not just shadows lying in a doorway. The lead actor plays a homeless ex-detective, in fact, and does an outstanding job of it.
