"The Fare" (2019) on Amazon Prime
This is a textbook example of what folks mean by "a little gem". It's no big deal of a movie but worth the 80 minutes for an intriguing mystery and likable characters. A yellow-cab driver is dispatched to pick up a woman on a lonely rural road at night. After some friendly stranger-to-stranger conversation, the cab briefly loses power. When the lights come back on, the woman has vanished. So the cabbie goes to pick up another fare and its the same woman, but he doesn't recognize her. It happens again and again. Eventually the cab driver starts remembering, but it's not until the last ten minutes or so that you know what's really going on. The reveal is surprising, and a little bit poignant. If you are looking for something strangely compelling but not gory or scary, "The Fare" should be an enjoyable ride.
