I thought I would find it in "Support Groups." Addiction / Recovery includes more than substance abuse, if people want to use the thread for sub-threads in the way 12-step groups have been formed for just about everything.

Not that it really matters where this is to me, just adding my two-cents that we want to have this topic (even though I have not been posting in it .... )

I didn't even know DU had an addiction & recovery group, but I think it's great. The one thing those who are addicted, or in recovery need is support from those who have been there and understand what it is like to be addicted, and to recover. I have been clean and sober now for 26 years, and the first 5 years were he hardest. I found AA and learned the 12 step program of recovery and would never have made it if not for the support of others who had been where I had been.

I will come here more often now that I know where to find it.

in recovery. A lot of folks in my area are far more to the right than I am. And in some ways that does make a difference in how they present recovery. First assumption here in KY is that you are Christian also.

I lived in San Antonio and Austin when I was working CoDA. I was also an active pagan in a coven. I just decided it wasn't worth spelling out that my higher power was more feminine and less Christian than they were used to. I'm glad I didn't find that to be a hindrance.

This time around, I'm in liberal country, but I can't find many CoDA groups so I'm with Al Anon, when I'm needing to recover from rescuing a pill addict, so now I have two things that don't quite fit and yet it still works for me, thank goodness. I don't hide the kind of addiction I enabled but they don't seem to have a problem with it.
