Adderall addiction

After several years of sleuthing I'm 99.9% sure our 23 y/o daughter is addicted to Adderall & alcohol.

Some of you may have read my posts in the past, most recently the one where she passed out, fell flat on the floor several times, then got up about 2 hours later full of energy, ready to watch a movie like nothing happened. We expected her to have a major hangover in the morning and be sore from all the times she fell flat on her face, however, she bounced out of bed like nothing happened. We asked her later if she remembered anything from that night and she said no.

Fast forward 2 months: She was home over the holidays & was exhibiting what has become her usual behavior over the last several years: bubbly, energetic, talkative, watching TV till 4am, sleeping till 4pm, drinking a 12 pack every night with her boyfriend, etc. This is from a person that is very introverted, especially in groups.

Back to my sleuthing. When she first got home our dog was sniffing in their suitcase and a bottle of pills fell out. I remembered at some point she mentioned her boyfriend takes meds for ADHD. One night at dinner she was talking about how she's started grinding her teeth.

She's dropped out of college and is still living in an apartment with her boyfriend. We are paying her rent & our name is on the lease which doesn't end till the end of July (they have separate leases for the apartment). We can sublet the apartment but are responsible for finding a renter but I literally don't know how to get her out of the apartment.

We haven't said anything to her yet and she will deny it if we do.

I'm very afraid of what she's going to do when we talk with her.

Did the pill bottle that 'fell out' have markings/label? Was it her own Rx? Did you look up the imprint on the internet?

8. I'm pretty sure the bottle was his based on her reaction. It was a large Rx bottle but

I couldn't see if it had a label. She's on our health insurance and there are no doctor claims so I don't think it's her prescription. I remember her saying one time that he had to get back for a tele-health appointment to get his ADHD meds refilled. At that time I knew nothing about Adderall so it wasn't on my radar.

It's a tough challenge, but not an insurmountable one. What applies in the case of 'alcohol' in the resources is applicable in terms of other substances as well.

If there are local meetings, go.

Next thing, lock up every bit of financial info, including your credit scores, all your tax, bank info. Any jewelry, anything that can be taken to a pawnshop or traded.

Before you stage an intervention, change all the locks to your property, if you have a keypad system, end her codes.

Does she have any access to guns?

Get with your & your Significant Other doctor, let them know that bad stuff is on the way. Your bp &stress hormones, at a minimum are going to be off.

The AA Big Book phrase " liars, thieves and cheats" is a truth for us in active addictions.

I am so sorry for this path you, your family and she is on

But I'm the user, not the family who is watching in horror & fear.

My best work friend, well one of her girls slid into heroin. It rips families.

An ibogaine treatment in mexico can help. The catch with that treatment for Alcohol is that the patient needs to be fully detoxed and already dry for ten or more days solid. It works against many addictions, except for Benzos like Xanax.
Best wishes. If that becomes an option I'm friends with someone who basically pioneered the treatment and he knows good providers around Mexico, and a few in Canada.
