(15,005 posts)One Day At A Time: I know that's right.
All the "built up" sobriety won't help if I start thinking things like, "well, I've done so well, I deserve a reward", or "I can start again, because this proves I can control it".

(5,126 posts)Gotta breathe and get through it.
1 minute at a time if I have to...
I'm more prone to depression and getting through times when I feel too much or too little.
I am my own worst enemy, but even the worst thoughts and feelings can and will disperse if I get outside of myself for a bit and think about others instead of myself.
I don't know if you've gone to any meetings or not, but one thing I love is visually dumping all the baggage off my shoulders at the door and making sure I don't pick it up on the way out.
LOL

(15,005 posts)I know that feeling of your brain being your own worst enemy sometimes.
I like the mental image of no carry-on baggage.

(15,359 posts)my diet and started exercising. Now I can barely stand missing my morning walk.
Sticking to a healthy diet works. It took a while, but now late at night if I need something, fruit or other healthy choices is what I want. That grapefruit in the fridge is calling me as I type this.

(15,005 posts)Unfortunately, I've still got that 'thing' where I like to numb out by watching tv and eating crap at night.
I need some of your talking grapefruits!

(15,359 posts)money stick around is good incentive to keep it up. Same with my diet. I cook a lot more and that saves me a lot too.

(27,227 posts)I have a bowl of ice cream every night while watching movies as a reward for making it through the day without drinking. It's been working for over four years!

Bill is a good "person" to have as a friend.

(15,005 posts)I came very close 30 years ago, but I guess I was too cowardly to walk through the door.
I certainly wish I had though. I wouldn't have lost so many years to getting wasted.
