Prostate cancer

I’m 63, decent shape, waited a month and a half to get a biopsy. Got my biopsy last Thursday. He calls me
yesterday and tells me my Gleason is 3+3. lower level cancer, office will make an appointment to discuss my options, One year ago my PSA level was 3.2. It’s 5.6 now. He said it didn’t change after the biopsy. His office called me today to schedule the follow up April 20th. Are you freaking kidding me? Told them I’m coming in to get all paperwork, images and scans and getting a second opinion. My primary care doctor told me that he could refer me to mayo clinic an hour away in Phoenix. I’m on limited income. Am I over reacting?

I firmly believe a second opinion is a good thing.

You should seek a second opinion regardless. There are also other places you can gather a lot of information quickly. Healthunlocked prostate cancer group and inspire prostate cancer are both great sites. You can Google them they’re free to join. They helped me get myself educated very quickly and my PCa was very high risk.

My husband is 73, his PSA went from 5-11 in six months. Gleason scale high enough to put him in highest level. Biopsies were positive on one side...negative on the other. Had negative bone scan and abdomen CT. Spreads to bone and lymph nodes if untreated. Is going to have radiation treatment and anti-testosterone therapy. Unhappy, stressed and worried.

You need to know what you need to know...go see another doctor.

Thank you, urologist said he found cancer on one side. I’m glad they caught it early. I’m just upset. It seems like they’re dragging their feet. This is my damn life, if he has options I want to see them but yeah I can always get another urologist.

I was so pissed I couldn’t see straight. Tried to get another urologist but starting over would have taken just as long. Nothing happens as quickly as we’d like it to. The good news is studies show there were no treatment outcome differences between groups that were treated immediately vs waiting 6 months.

Especially if there's a strong family history. My PSA started creeping up over 4.0, and the GP referred me to a Urologist. He was originally going to watch the levels, but then i mentioned that I'd lost an uncle to it. He immediately scheduled a biopsy. Out of the 12 samples, 4 were positive and 5 were pre-cancerous.

Wound up at a clinic in Phoenix for radiation therapy, 5 days a week for 9 weeks. That was 6 years ago.

PSA has been 0.2 and 0.1 for the last 3 years.

Talking with a cousin a couple years ago (his daughter), he had a VERY bad time of it toward the end.

If you don’t mind me asking, did you go to mayo clinic in Phoenix? besides John Hopkins, I heard they’re the best I can’t remember if any of my uncles died of it I know my dad didn't Was reading a lot of men will die with it but not from it if you catch it early like you said, Thank you for your input

I’ve been busy with my work.

I did my radiation therapy at Prostate Cancer Center of Phoenix, on 19th avenue, just a few blocks north of the 101. A very nice and caring group of people.

I was referred by Arizona Urology Specialists of Glendale.
