Had an MRI yesterday.......

I've had 2 CT's that showed an 8mm meningioma and hyperostosis. The results of the MRI were sent to my PCP, she emailed me today that the MRI shows no meningioma & only what she says is a calcification. I will ask here to clarify what a calcification is exactly.

However, I am confused as to why one test shows one thing and the other test rules the first one out.

Also I was assuming that the meningioma might be the cause of my tinnitus and occasional loss of balance. So I will start all over and make an appointment with an ENT.

Any thoughts?

1. MRI's are generally more accurate than CTs

It's not unusual for a CT to suggest X, then a follow-up scan (either CT with contrast dye, or MRI, or MRI with contrast) to provide more detail that shows it's not X.

As to the vertigo/tinnitus, ENT is a great start. I hope that appointment can give you some answers!

2. This happened to me many times after my breast cancer dx.

The CTs saw stuff all over the place, lungs, liver and thyroid. After numerous subsequent tests, all proved negative. Those ultra-sensitive body scans are both a blessing and a curse.

in this case a blessing for me. I emailed with my doctor & she backed me up going to an ENT group that has a subspecialty in tinnitus. I have insurance for the first time in 4 years & I'm trying to get everything fixed.
