In the hospital with COVID

Unfortunately, I had to enter the hospital on Friday.

COVID struck again.
Had it last year.
Had it last month but took 5 day antivirals.
Was feeling fine for a little while.
Restarted my cancer treatment and COVID got into my lungs.
May be able to go home tomorrow.

I part blame the TFG.

He did not attempt to achieve herd immunity.

TFG is personally and professionally incompetent.

How some people can still support him defies common sense and logic.

I was there in July, and yes it is fucking Trump's fault--he practically told people not to get vaccinated, and guess what? Goddam variant after variant, and I'm so scared of getting infected again I barely leave the house--and masks everywhere.

I told my doctor I could live with (heh) dying from getting hit by a truck, but I was damned if some goddam Trumpist would kill me with his covid--and by god he's not going to get me, even if I have to go stand in front of a truck if I ever test positive again.

Be strong--don't let those bastards get us. The fuckers.

I'm an atheist, but I pray for people I care about, and I'm going to pray for you. I've walked in your covid (and cancer) shoes.

The first time I got Covid I had just had my 3rd chemo treatment (breast cancer). I got sick pretty quickly and got pneumonia. The ER wanted to admit me but my oncologist said I could go home, thank gawd. (I can't tell you how much I did not want to stay in the hospital.) I stayed at home in bed for almost 2 weeks only getting up to use the bathroom which took every ounce of energy I could muster. I was terrified. Every time I woke up I would take a breath to see if it was getting worse or better. I stayed pretty much the same until one morning I was suddenly able to take a deep breath. That was it. It took something like 3 to 4 more weeks before I could get a negative test and return to my cancer treatment. I am now in remission.

Hang in there. I know how scary it is to have to put off treatment. That was all I could think about once I was safely through Covid - how missing treatments might hinder my recovery. I am so grateful to be alive and doing well.

It's very frightening for those of us who are immune compromised. I wish you a quick recovery.

Stories like yours are why I get every booster, rarely go out and if I do it is within N95 tightly strapped onto my face. I was the only person wearing a mask, any kind of mask, when I went to Sprouts in San Diego today. Unbelievable.

I check Covid on Worldometers and Japan is seeing another big spike in new cases and they mask all the time. This crap is still out there. Since I get reactions from the boosters I'm fairly certain that Covid would hit me hard.

Seems to me he’s a continuation of the legend of Emperor Nero, who fiddled while Rome burned.

I just tested negative yesterday and I'm feeling much better today.

It's scary when you're being treated for cancer. Our family has experienced this. I will keep you in my thoughts, ok?

My immunocompromised husband started Paxlovid today for COVID. He is getting chemotherapy so I empathize with your situation. Wanted to keep husband in hospital last night but he wanted to come home. It’s scary.

Hello:

I am now back home and have to make a decision on when to return to work.

And also, when to start chemotherapy back up.

I wish I could retire and take care of my health.

I am age 60 and have battling lymphoma for some 30+ years.

A remission for the 13 years the first time and 15 years the second time.

Thanks for all the well wishes from the DU community.

Sincerely,
Michael
