First bicycle ride in 15 months today.

It was just a light ride around my little community, about a 3-mile round-trip. It felt so good! I highly recommend that if any of you who are fully vaccinated are still depriving yourself of familiar good-health habits you gave up during the pandemic, now is the time to reclaim this part of your life.

What's amazing is that even after all this time, my ancient bike worked great -- reliable braking, all gears worked fine, tires in good shape (although of course they needed inflating). Even more amazing, my ancient body still functioned well enough to complete the ride without pain or (much) strain.

In the Before Times, I was a destination bike rider. I seldom rode for "exercise," but rode to do an errand, visit a coffee shop, hang out with a friend, etc. The exercise was tangential. And, even though lots of people got out and rode during 2020 and early 2021, I just didn't feel like it. But today, it's a brand-new day!

Unpleasant, and not so safe. Here the days are heating up, so that limits riding hours to the early part of the day — if I can get out in time!

I tend to avoid riding my bike if it’s too hot, too cold, or rainy, or if I’m tired, sick, or busy with something important. So that means I can ride about 20 days each year.

As you can see, I’m very disciplined about my fitness regimen!

I used to have one and go for long rides on back country roads.
I had a Sony Walkman and some good (1980's) headphones and would just ride for hours..... I miss it and I think I am going to start that type of fitness in the near future.

It’s a fun way to get around and accidentally get some exercise in the process. Hope you will be back on the (bike) chain gang soon!

I had abdominal surgery 3 months ago and have had to postpone bicycle rides til probably autumn. (Doc says too much risk of undoing the surgery if there’s a sudden impact from a crash or emergency dismount.)

So for the near term I’m just going out for walks, mostly in the early morning hours during the hot months. Great time to listen to podcasts!
