A very strange way to improve leg strenth, and get some exercize at the same time.

I discovered this 2 years ago..my cordless phone broke down. It was situated next to the computer I am now writing at. So, I said to myself, oh damn, now I got to go buy some newer more up to date phones. I know where to go, there is an excellent place to buy them, but it is about 6 or 7 miles away...I have bought many appliances there, they are honest and fair. I will get to it "later"..

....so, I never got to it, but discovered this..................I sit at the computer, like I am now, and the phone rings. so, everytime it does so, I get up and go to another room, and pick up another phone. I walk about 20 feet and sit down. All calls, even the robo-calls to fix my front fence..yes all calls.

I estimate in 2 years I have gotten up at least 3500 times from the computer and walked 20 feet. When I came back, I had to get up again to come back to the computer. I never got the phone replaced and I am not sure I ever will.

and to the fridge and then to bed - it all counts in the grand scheme of getting enough exercise (which I keep telling my wife) .

Squats, lunges, long jumps, 180 Degree Switch Jumps are some of the exercise which helps to incresae leg strength.

is to not let one's body go into "resting" mode, i.e., getting up every few minutes or so keeps the metabolism in a fat burning mode as opposed to fat storing. Or so I've heard. Anyone else have thoughts on this? Sometimes I just switch between sitting and standing at work to accomplish this, especially if I'm on a long call or writing technical specs that don't let me get away from the desk.
