I saw a therapist for the first time a week ago. For depression episodes I've had all my adult life.

The depression I think is mostly caused by a few traumatic events. A couple of things I never told anyone about for 40 years. I just ended a 12 year relationship as well, and never even opened up to her.

I had this in mind for quite some time. I knew something would come along that would disturb me, and when it does, it brings up a lot of bad memories and sets me off. That's what seems like happened anyway, maybe my therapist will have other ideas. That's why I'm going.

I told her part of my inspiration was The Sopranos. I loved those scenes with Dr. Melfi. She said she's heard that inspired people before.

Overall, I'm doing pretty well. I've lost a lot of weight and am in better shape that I have been in 15 years. I'd like to meet someone nice and start another relationship. I thought the therapy might help ensure I handle any disappointments that may come.

I liked the first session. She didn't think I needed a complete evaluation or medication. I'm not opposed to that, but think my weed is quite sufficient.

it even sounds like a good idea, but I really like walking over to the bar and pounding some down. A lady friend down the street manages it and would give me a heads-up on any prospects hanging out there if COVID ever settles down. Hiding out hasn't helped anything either, but I'm okay. I just want to keep it that way.

Therapy is a luxury, imo. Tough work, but a luxury for most.

I'm glad you are addressing your trauma.

Turned out to be the best thing that ever happened to me.
Found out where all of those depressing feeling were coming from so I could find some healthy ways to deal with them. Got into a routine of an hour of exercise every day. Went back to school while still working and got a degree in psychology.

Best of luck.

time because of the random testing. I'm thinking of quitting, but have been having fun making my own edible treats. One of those before my morning walk might be the thing I would miss the most.

Partially, simply setting aside the time to focus on yourself and issues gives a person a chance at success.

We are only as sick as our secrets in some ways. Hiding pain and shame gives it more power in our lives.

When I started getting better, I noticed guys seemed to be crawling out of the woodwork and began noticing me, but just like cockroaches, they weren't really the healthy relationships I wanted.

So to NOT get into the same old same old, I wrote up 2 lists.

One was for all the things that would be great in someone I could love for the rest of my life.

One was for who I wanted to be in a relationship.

My second hubby was everything on my list and being with him helps me live up to mine as well.

After 30 years together, he does get on my nerves once in awhile, but hey, we just get through it and figure it out.

PROBLEM SOLVING was big on the list... so found someone who isn't afraid to deal with stuff.

Good on you for getting started on being healthier.

HOPE YOU GET A WHOLE NEW LEASE ON LIFE AND SENSATIONAL RESULTS.
