Dozens of abortion-slowing laws are currently on the verge of being passed, in dozens of states. Most of them involve putting lots of paperwork - and vaginal probes - between a pregnant woman, and an abortion.

Recently, when it was complained in Virginia that vaginal probes were Republican "rape"? That particular sonogram procedure was deleted from the sonogram bill in Virginia. But the rest of the bill remains. And now seems likely to pass.

By the way? The requirement for a vaginal probe in early pregnancy, to show the patient the outline of her embryo? Seems to remain in a new Texas law, that was passed in 2011/12, by the esteemed Rick Perry. And by the Republican supermajority in the Texas house and senate.

Critics suggest attempting to nulify/challenge these laws, and especially the probe. Though the Texas bill has passed one Federal appeal, many more challenges to these laws may remain viable. For instance? Possibly calling use of the probe on an unwilling woman, "rape." Or rape under "legal" coercion.

2. What an improvement

Now instead of being raped, a woman gets to fill her bladder until it feels like it's going to burst, then have warm goo spread all over her abdomen, and then have to endure the ultrasound wand pressing down on that very full bladder for what seems like an eternity.

It's an uncomfortable procedure (believe me--I know) and for it to be totally unnecessary is shameful.

I hope everybody who voted these tyrants into office are thinking long and hard about the choice they made.
