Related: About this forumSo I just replied to an e-mail from Walgreens
I just got an e-mail from Walgreen's with the title "Where Did You Go?" I thought I would share what I sent back to them, especially since after I hit "SEND" on their website, it was not at all clear to me that the message actually went all the way through.
This is in response to an e-mail I received with the title "Where Did You Go"
I thought it might be of some value to let you know why I will no longer be shopping at, or ordering from Walgreens, now or in the future.
As an elderly male, it is hardly something that directly impacts me at the moment, but, your Corporate policies with regard to Mifepristone, and your decision to play games with where and to whom it will be dispensed have caused me to decline to do any further business with your company.
Women have the right to full health care, without having to second guess whether their local drugstore will provide them the medicines required for their current health issues, or whether the store will be under the control of a political minority who seeks to disrupt the availability of some treatments to some individuals, based on their own religious dogmas and delusions.
Beyond this immediate issue, you have shown that I cannot trust you to be there for me or my family when a moment of need comes around. You have shown that your first response will be to check with your political masters, not just provide the medicines and care that are needed at the time.

(757 posts)Walgreens must be testing the waters to see what damage they have done to themselves. Not that they would listen to people, I have no doubt they don't care, really, except for their share holders.

All the more so, given that the owners of Walgreens are Italian Opus Dei freaks (especially the CEO's wife - a real Lady MacBeth type).
I'm only surprised they didn't pull this garbage before.

(21,620 posts)Italian fascists can be just as dangerous as U.S. ones - but they often have that "cultured" flair that allows them to pass for moderates.

(509 posts)With the consolidation of the health care system under mega-money, there are vanishingly few places to go when you exclude Walgreens. I already don't like CVS, and, Walmart, fuhgeddaboudit. I still bring all of my medical purchases to a local independent shop, even if I could shave a few bucks off by going to the biggies.
I am not under the delusion that my action will mean Jack-diddly-squat to these folks, but, as a single droplet, at least I can lend my insignificant weight to the flood.

Wisconsin just sent a very CLEAR message in the State Supreme Court race by electing a progressive to the court and changing the balance of power from Ultra conservative to now a 4 - 3 progressive court.
Women want and deserve the rights to their bodies, and they clearly don't want pharmacies and courts to steal those rights.

(7,055 posts)It might be worth calling stores first to find out what their policies are about Mifepristone, and tell them you want to support them if they continue to provide it to those who need it.

(16,297 posts)They and the single distributer are being threatened by multiple AGs. The distributor already said they won't distribute the drug in 31 states.
Pretty soon Dr offices will have lawyers on staff to check over the doctors scripts.

(509 posts)If they are in business to provide maximal profit income for shareholders, equity funders, venture capitalists or hedge funds, then they should take the easy, slimy way out and do as they are doing. If their mission is to provide the necessary care and medicine required by their customer patients, then they need to stand up to all of the AG's and say, "Try it and you're in for a very long and very messy fight".
By taking the actions that they have, they have defined their mission. My own personal mission is to withhold support from such organizations.

(1,138 posts)to which we have access are the executive, legislative, and judicial branches. As consumers we have access to the lever of power which is the corporations. I think that it is important to use all of the access that we have. Of course, the more that we give up our status as citizens to embrace our status as consumers the less we are able to access the political levers of power.
