The week before my weight loss surgery. You wouldn't believe what they are

making me do.

And they didn't tell me until my appointment on Tues.

I can drink 4 protein shakes a day up to 210 calories and 7, (?) carbs. Which means the one I got from Costco and drank yesterday is out. The one I got from them is OK.

I can have all the broth I want. I've been doing vegetable broth because the chicken broth tastes like a dead chicken. Also I have this beef broth from costco that is in a paste and that tastes good.

My surgery is on Wed. and Monday and Tuesday I have to cut out the protein shakes!

I feel so tired and kind of weak but I called the office and they told me it was normal. Apparently they want to shrink your liver so the surgery is easier and if it is too big they can't do it laparoscopy so they will have to cut you. That's enough motivation for me.

I had no idea I would have to do this. But maybe it is good practice for after the surgery and to learn that I do not need as much food as I thought.

I've also started going to OA online and have great people and some that have had the surgery so I'm happy about that.

A word to the wise who are dieting here: Stick to it and do not let yourself get up to the point that your blood tests are bad and you are having health complications and need to do something drastic like I am doing. I wish you all the best on your journeys!!!

but Monday and Tuesday, only broth and coffee and water? It might be hard, but you can do it! This is a great step you are taking. Good luck!

A friend had a similar regimen to follow before his surgery. It's difficult, but hang in there.

Not for weight loss but to bypass an inoperable bowel blockage. My surgery was also laparoscopic.

Pay careful attention to the post-operative food instructions. You are going to be on a strict and careful diet for many weeks, so that you don't cause any damage to the surgical site.

You'll have to eat rather specific kinds of foods, liquids at the beginning, then soft foods like mashed potatoes, and so on. Don't overeat! Eat often instead.

I'm ten months post-surgery, and I'm doing fine. I can order out from lots of restaurants and only avoid a few specific foods. I can't eat much soft bread or breadsticks or fluffy rolls, though toasted bread or English muffins are no problem. I can't eat steak, though a good pot roast or roast beef that easily pulls apart is just fine. Your food problems will be your own, so when you can start eating solid foods, try new stuff gently. The intestinal upsets are not a pleasant thing!

If you have some questions, send me a PM. I'd be happy to answer any questions.
