Chicken with sesame noodles and hoisin sauce.
Tossed green salad with avocado, red pepper, scallions, radishes, and sliced broccoli stalk stems.
Dessert: HD raspberry-chocolate bar wtih decaf coffee.
The first dish is one we used to have when we went to a particular restaurant, pre-Covid. This restaurant was well known for bringing in chefs from the Chinese mainland for a month or two. The "in-residence" chefs would always have their own special menus, in addition to the regular one. I asked the RG if he could imitate the chicken-sesame noodle dish from their regular menu and he was able to do so.
I miss the restaurant, but hey, someday soon....

(38,553 posts)1" bone-in rib-eye steak (no one will ever convince me that a bone-in rib-eye isn't the best cut of steak), seared in the cast-iron skilled and finished in the oven. (Al's son bought the steak, and I'll be cooking it. It's big enough for the two of us.)
roasted carrots and potatoes
creamed spinach
Dessert is homemade chocolate cupcakes (the recipe is on the back of the can of Hershey's cocoa) with coconut/pecan icing.
Al is drinking a Chardonnay, and I am drinking Cab.

(22,034 posts)I think you might be right, MissMillie, that the rib-eye is the best cut of beef. The only exception might be the tenderloin which is just so succulent that I'm drooling just thinking about it!
Best wishes for your guy.

(6,078 posts)Double chocolate cookies from the bakery for dessert. They're pretty good, almost like a brownie.

Lots of varieties on this recipe. Mine had lots of yellow onions, garlic, pancetta, tomato paste, vodka, cream, and parsley & chives.
Very in character of peasant food, easy to whip up and tasty.

P.S. I substituted Bucatini for spaghetti.
