Woohoo!! Shopping spree (Mother's Day gift to myself)

So, I discovered this really cool restaurant supply store in LA on the internet and checked it out yesterday.

All of my knives were dull and all of my bakeware rusty, so I decided that if I am going to do this much cooking, I needed to upgrade my tools. My justification - I save us tons of money because we rarely eat out.

So I bought:

knives - Victorinix - chef's 8 inch, utility, bread and paring.

bakeware - heavy duty, stainless - half sheets with racks, lasagna pan, bread pan

mixing bowls - set of 10, nesting, tempered glass - can go in refrigerator, microwave and oven

I had a blast and feel like I have a whole new laboratory!

Care to share that website?

I'm not in the market (and don't have the funds) to buy right now, but virtual window shopping is always a treat.

6. I had done some research and found that the Victorinix were the best deal.

Not inexpensive, but not as expensive as some others, that's for sure.

They carried only a few brands at this store, and their choices of Victorinix was extensive.

Add to that that this is the place where LA's chefs buy their equipment, I was sold! Used the first one last night and it was all I had dreamed of.

And I thought I had a small kitchen. 1960's house with the washer and dryer in the kitchen. I have purged my kitchen a few times, but the gadgets keep multiplying!

I was also thinking I need those latches on my ancient kitchen cabinets. I have the kind that when you close one door, another door pops open.

The doors all swing freely when released, but stay tightly shut when secured.

14. It is a boat galley, and pretty spacious as galleys go.

I keep my laundry equipment in the bathroom (hand crank washer and spin dryer).

Anyway, I did a deep purge when I brought my new things home. Lots of people in this community can use what I no longer want.

Woohoo!!!!!!

LOVE getting new stuff to play with!!! Congrats!!!

And thanks for the pic. I really enjoy reading about your on board adventures... nice to have a little visual aid to add to the stories.

ETA: So.... what's the bar in front of your stove for? Something to hold on to when things get rocky?

And what are all those dials (are they dials?) to the left?

Not only do I have very limited storage space, things have to be stowed so they don't go crashing around.

I had to give up my much beloved glass wine glasses early on, lol.

I have shifted to stainless steel for the most part...much easier for me to handle weight-wise and virtually indestructible, but I love the idea of glass bowls...and you can use yours in the micro!

I've been longing for a great set of lidded glass food containers for refrigerator storage, maybe one of these days...
