Related: About this forumbeef stew. it has been a very long time since I made it and my kitchen smells wonderful this afterno
I went easy, 1#cubed chuck, 1 rough cut onion, seared in a bit of veg oil, bit of salt , 1 can cream of celery soup 1can veggie broth, covered the skillet, 15 min later 2 big handfuls of rough cut carrots, 10 min after that 2 handfuls of baby potatoes sliced in half. tasted and adjusted salt added peppercorns.
I also realize I am now using my Grandmas cooking measurements..

(25,078 posts)But I bet it smells wonderful. With a stew like that, you can't go wrong since the longer it cooks the more flavors are blended.
Enjoy!

(15,805 posts)That makes it more like a soup rather than the traditional beef gravy stew we expect.

(15,805 posts)Meat and lots of different veggies in a thick, well seasoned sauce. When times get frugal and I need to stretch my budget i serve stew over cooked egg noodles or mashed potatoes to soak up all that gravy. Dumplings or biscuits on top are also a nice addition for hungry people.

(830 posts)might try the same recipe using bison instead of beef. Always like the results myself.
