Related: About this forumFried cabbage and SPAM
Made this last night for dinner and I ate the whole thing as I liked it. it was my only meal of the day so I didn't feel guilty about eating all of it and I'm the only one here at home. If you prefer, you can substitute the SPAM for 3 slices of bacon cut up into pieces.
Ingredients
1/3 cup of vegetable oil
1/3 can of SPAM diced (or 3 slices of bacon cut into pieces)
1 head of cabbage cored and chopped
1 medium onion chopped (optional)
1 tsp of salt
1 tsp of pepper
1 pinch of sugar
Directions
Place the oil, salt, pepper and SPAM in a appropriate sized stock pot
Cook at medium high heat for about 3 minutes while occasionally stirring so meat doesn't burn
Add chopped cabbage, onion and sugar
Cook for about 5 minutes, stirring often, or until cabbage is tender

(26,260 posts)No mustard, although I might just try adding it. It's kind of a recipe for getting rid of leftovers, although I like to make it from scratch. The cooked veg and meat gets mixed into the mashed potatoes. I then like to form that into patties and fry them.

I have used canned corned beef. Really good. Just add a couple of dashes of apple cider vinegar when serving.
I'll have to try it with spam!

(9,265 posts)Has been GONE from my local Giants shelves for weeks now. I read its due to people hoarding and staffing issues at Hormel due to Covid. This recipe sounds great once I can find it. Or just fried Spam slices as part of weekend brunch.
