Is it safe to cook food in Corning Ware on a gas range top? I have a friend who has

been doing this for years and it has always made me very nervous as I thought that Corning Ware was meant to be used in the oven. She told me that she lived in NY near where Corning Ware was manufactured, so she knew all about it. I would never use any glass cookware on a gas or electric stovetop, but she swears it is safe.

3. There are non-glass-ceramic Corningware products

That link may be specific to Asia. I have linked the US site below.

The stoneware/ovenware is different.

One of the issues with the Corningware oven products is that they are large and rectangular, as opposed to round stove burners.

If the burner size is far below the size of the rectangular Corningware, I believe one of the concerns is internal stress due to uneven heating.

The Corningware mark is applied to glass-ceramics, stoneware, and ceramic ovenware items.

Corningware glass-ceramic ware is safe for all stoves and ovens.

https://www.pyrexware.com/use-care-corningware-stovetop.html

All glass-ceramic CORNINGWARE® can be used in conventional, convection, toaster and microwave ovens, on a rangetop, under a broiler, in the refrigerator, freezer and in the dishwasher.

4. Only the line of Corningware called "Vision" is meant to be used directly on stove top burners

The Vision line includes dutch oven, saute and sauce pans with lids that are either translucent cranberry or brownish glass and specially designed for use on stove top burners rather than just oven. Of course they can also be used in oven or microwave. I have a whole set of 5 pieces plus lids in different sizes that I have owned for well over 20 years and use them nearly daily on top of stove (I have electric range) or microwave.

8. I've been using my VisionWare for almost as long on a gas range.

I'm considering replacing gas range with electric but was wondering if I could use the VisionWare on electric burners. I love using them though they are harder to keep clean.

in 1980 we were given a set of pyrex stovetop cookware. All glass. Frying pan, sauce pan, dutch oven, etc. All great stuff. Don't know if it is made the same as corningware?

Box was lost when we moved in 1998.

Oh, well.

I made our morning coffee in a Pyrex glass coffee percolator for many years - on a gas range with burner on high. Never had a problem. It made excellent coffee.
