(15,876 posts)Less steaming, more frying... I'm gonna try it with thin sliced onions, a splash of ACV and garlic...

(23,568 posts)I usually cook mushrooms really well but I've made the mistake of seasoning in the beginning.
Also sometimes I put this fancy Balsamic Vinegar in at the very end.

(4,557 posts)Yummy to mushrooms. I put it in my beef stroganoff, which relies on mushrooms for its flavor.
I usually hate mushrooms. But I like them in stroganoff and sautéed with butter on top of a steak.
Otherwise, they taste like dirt to me!

(2,681 posts)I love mushrooms, wouldn't make spaghetti sauce without them, like in lasagna and on pizza, too.
But for steak, I have special way to make them. First I use the large white mushrooms. Don't wash, break out the stems and use for the stock pot or discard. Do not wash mushrooms, instead clean with dry mushroom brush. Commercial mushrooms are grown in sterile medium, so this is safe.
Melt butter in skillet and lay mushrooms with stem cup part up. Put thin sliver of butter in each mushroom cup. As the butter melts in the cup area, sprinkle some garlic powder in "cup" with the butter. Let cook few minutes, turn each over to brown on both sides adding more butter as needed. Sprinkle a little more garlic powder on each mushroom as it browns. Don't overcook the mushrooms.
Serve mushrooms on top of grilled steak along with some of the melted garlic butter.
Been making this recipe for over 40 years. Once, one of our dinner guests remarked, skip the steak, all she wanted to eat was the mushrooms.
