For best results kick up the temp to 400* and cook for at least 45 min. And dont forget to throw on a half dozen cloves of garlic, too. Trim the tops of garlic about 1/8th in and drizzle olive oil on top. Absolutely heaven!
Shmear that garlic on a slice of toasted bread and prepare to swoon.

(4,473 posts)30 minutes at 350° is fine for onions. I agree with you about baked potatoes, the temp is too low and the time too short. I use a recipe for roast potatoes which parboils them for 10 minutes, and has bakes them at 400° for 45 minutes. And these are peeled Yukon Golds, usually cut in half, not Russets with the jacket on.
