I'm taking off for my Christmas Eve dinner, which is at my friend's house a short distance away, like about 10 blocks. Not sure of the entire menu, but I do know this:
--my friend is making her famed crabcakes
--I am taking a ruffly green lettuce salad with pomegranate, toasted almonds, red apple, and fennel. On the side is eggnog flavored goat cheese.
--I made olive sundried tomato tapenade.
Only 3 other people are attending due to Covid concerns.
I might add to this thread when I get back later tonight.

(43,254 posts)4 donuts. Amazing the grease that rolled off the broiled hamburger. The donuts? Eh, it's Christmas Eve. First splurge in a week.

Just baked rolls
Casseroles: Mac and cheese, broccoli and rice, sweet potatoes with pecan crust (no darn marshmallows), and corn pudding
Green beans (not in a casserole)
FLFC smelled the ham as I was glazing it and got a slice. After that he was back to the couch sleeping it off.
Yesterday he got to wander the back yard again for a while. This was a big thing. He smelled all sorts of things he can't smell in the front yard.
They live in a truly amazing world. At my house, if you open the door and its raining, you just try another door!

(9,994 posts)we have chili on Christmas Eve. I think that tradition started years ago because it was so easy and there was so much to do with people singing in different services. Talking about way back when I was a kid. Tonight, however, I am still "down in my back" so we are having tomato soup and grilled cheese.

(8,310 posts)I usually do lasagna but I decided to make a big pan of green chili, chicken enchiladas. Then there will be leftovers tomorrow so I don't have to cook at all. Win/win! And chocolate cream pie for dessert. That's traditional. Happy Christmas, everyone!

(22,041 posts)Her husband makes Christmas Eve dinner each year and he laid out an awesome spread!
During cocktails, he had a delicious shrimp platter as well as a cheese plate with a variety of selections.
He had a beautiful beef roast that was cooked such that everyone was happy whether they wanted their meat rare or well done. There was a delicious horseradish sauce and a light gravy. This was accompanied by dirty mashed potatoes and steamed green beans with roasted almonds.
Since tomorrow is my S-I-Ls birthday, we had a gluten-free carrot cake and ice cream for dessert. Then we exchanged gifts.
It was a lovely afternoon and we were pleased that everyone there was triple-vaxed and we all had negative at-home Covid tests last night. It felt safe and kind of like old times.

Just finishing up my holiday desserts. My thermometer quit working while I was making the caramel layer for my Millionaire Shortbread. The caramel did set. When I go to cut it, I'll determine whether or not it set too much. Don't want to break anyone's teeth.

The big meal will be tomorrow at our friends house. Wanted to eat lighter because we know there will be a groaning board of food.

(10,145 posts)vegan gołąbki (cabbage rolls), mushrooms in sour cream, and a salad. With only two of us this year I didn't feel like doing the full-up seven course meal.
Now I have to figure out what to do with an enormous amount of leftover rice/onion/mushroom mix!
