And none of them are out of your price range. The 1920 Prohibition Style is my favorite, but it's a very high proof spirit @ 57.5% (115 proof)

The 1910 Style comes in at 47.5% and is also delicious it's more approachable for folks less acclimated to straight liquor.

The Jack Daniels Distillery is putting out some amazing bottles (If you'd rather avoid Kentucky products) honestly, everything except Old No. 7 is good.

Look for a single Barrel 100 Proof for an occasional whiskey person or a Single Barrel, Barrel Proof (57-59% depending on the bottle) bottle for an old hand like me.

Lately some of my faves come from Indiana. In particulara bottle called George Remus is a $60-ish offering, and it kicks ass.
From the same company if you can find it, is a bottle called Eight and Sand for around $40 that would retail at $100 if more folks knew about it (IMHO)

If you can find it. It's really hard to find these days. Which would make it a special treat for him if you could.

It was really cheap and got him there.

All the notes of the good stuff are there if you can get past the taste of the barrel.

Not a fan, not even in the good old days when I could drink once in a while.

I'll leave that one for chuckles. Try this one: https://www.breakingbourbon.com/review/old-crow-bourbon It's pretty funny, too, lots of talking around "this stuff tastes like cigar butts in lab alcohol."

I always found it pretty foul stuff and to this day, can't tell good bourbon from this stuff. I haven't been able to drink since the mid 70s so everybody else can have my share.

My inability to drink is what likely came through on a stray gene from the distant past, my family being total mongrels before they left Europe.

My husband is a major fan of Bourbon, belongs to a Bourbon Club at Brennans in NO! He loves Woodford for it's really smooth caramel taste and it runs around $44 at the discount liquor store. He says it's better than a lot of really expensive varieties. For everyday, he drinks Benchmark. It's amazingly good for the low price.

Cheers!

when I was growing up in KY we always heard it couldn't be called Bourbon unless it was made in KY.
(not true) but only Bourbon made in KY can be called Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey

I have always thought Jack Daniels was not a bourbon because something was different which missed one of the requirements. Then I found this: https://www.thewhiskeyshelf.com/is-jack-daniels-bourbon/ Very interesting comparison .

I keep a big bottle around for baking. You can take your favorite Rum cake recipe and swap out the rum for bourbon and it is a killer!

One of my KY friends favors Maker's Mark. I do not drink dark liquors so I can't be of much help there.
