Can I cook chopped up asparagus in a stir fry dinner?

Last edited Mon Jan 9, 2023, 10:39 PM - Edit history (1)

Normally I would use some zuccini, but I'm out.

The other ingredients are chopped onion and sliced up tri tip beef.

Oh, and a new potato!

Thanks!

I love lightly cooked asparagus where it isn't mushy but still crunchy. It has a nutty taste to me.

Potato? Maybe cook it a little first, it may not cook up in a stir fry. Then add it after it has already cooked some.

the add the uncapped "tips" towards the end.
A nice compliment to that might be some broccoli florettes and even cook the diced up stalks longer than the asparagus stems.
Beef and broccoli are a total match.

I'd suggest pan searing the asparagus a bit before - better if it is slightly sauted/browned.

Veggie so add it to the saute last. Just don't use the end of the stalk where it gets tough.

if the other ingredients will cook up more quickly than the asparagus. Then add it to the stir fry.

There's a huge variance to asparagus generally. Really thin asparagus (and tips) can be stir-fried similar to zucchini (or other thin stuff like celery, bell peppers, onions), but thicker stalks need time more like carrots would. Added a bit of water for a steaming effect can speed this up.

The flavor with the beef will be great and it'll give a nice texture, especially if it isn't too done.
