Related: About this forumOMG!! OMG!! This Chik Fellatio Hoopla got me to try Popeye's Spicy fried chicken. YAY!!!!
I have to start this by saying that I could spit tie a bird before I could ride a two wheeler and that's a fact. Chicken *is* what's for dinner in my house...we even joke about the question "what's for dinner? <<---answer, or the REAL question is "How do you want your chicken?" I am a KFC person, really, when it comes to parts, Royal Farms ain't too shabby either, and to be quite honest, that "other" place got my breakfast business anytime I was buying breakfast out as I thought their breakfast chicken biscuits could not be beat, and their sweet tea is the quintessential Southern Sweet Tea, if that's how you're taking it. Being mid Atlantic born and raised, we know the essential difference between North and South iced tea varieties, and we are schooled in both, thankyouverymuch. I ate there roughly three or four times a week. I can tell you now it was $6.12 for my chosen breakfast (2 chicken biscuits, and a large sweet tea, no lemon, I could never finish both biscuits, and would wind up just eating the chicken part of the other, or being generous with a friend who didn't have breakfast that morning) and that's up from the five bucks it used to be fifteen years ago when I discovered it was my favorite breakfast.
Then the dust up happened...
I can now safely say that I won't be able to tell you the incremental changes in those biscuits or the chicken they sandwiched because I won't be buying ANYTHING from them until they STOP using their money to hurt gay people. No I am not gay. No that does not matter. Cloaking HATE in the fold of religion matters a wee bit more, sue me.
So all this chicken talk got me wanting some chicken.
I got to doing some research and discovered that Popeye's donates ONE HUNDRED PERCENT OF THE MONEY THEY ALLOCATE FOR POLITICAL PURPOSES TO THE DEMOCRATIC PARTY.
Welp, that settled it. Time for the taste of New Orleans. Dad tells me that they have spicy chicken and that scared me a bit, a la the spicy chicken filet at Wendy's that is sad and disappointing at once and you wished you'd bought the regular filet soon after biting into that mess...again I KNOW my chicken, so I decided to get the mixed box. Well, that was the only mistake, and the not spicy chicken wasn't too shabby, but their spicy chicken? IT ROCKED MY FUCKING WORLD. I thought this was because of the dust up, because of my roots with chicken, but the leftovers do not lie.
Give your kitchen and your conscience a rest, and LOVE THAT SPICY CHICKEN FROM POPEYE'S. Really.

The biscuits? Perfect.
I get mild, dark meat on the bone, red beans, cole slaw and a biscuit.
It's my heaven and only comes around about 4 times a year.

(35,000 posts)I'm generally not a fried chicken eater, but Popeye's spicy is definitely my chicken of choice. I agree that their biscuits are also the best, and the green beans are perfectly seasoned. I like the red beans and rice, too.

(114,675 posts)and yes, they were great, beating greasy KFC stuff to a bland pulp. I didn't want to get to be the size of a house so I didn't eat it often, but when I did, Popeye's got my hard earned money.
In fact, I had no idea how KFC managed to stay in business there, just like I have no idea how Taco Bell stays in business here in NM when there are hole in the wall places selling the real thing, cheaper. But I digress.
I hope Popeye's gets enough increased business from this flapdoodle to expand into other parts of the country. I do miss them. There's a local fried chicken/BBQ takeout joint that does the crust right but falls flat on the seasoning. And I can do my own sweet tea, thanks, even my NYC mother finally learned how to do that one.
Really good chicken is tough to find, though. If you're anywhere near a Popeye's, that's where to find it. It's just the extra biscuit and coleslaw in the box that they're True Blue.

(10,291 posts)all the endorsements for red beans and rice, I will have to try it...and the green beans. And the biscuits. The *other* place had my favorite biscuits before, but, truth be told, I love my gay friends and my conscience more than I love *any* biscuit.

I just couldn't resist
16 years ago, one day,
I was walking down the street
I was cruising in brooklyn
You know what I mean?
Something was cooking,
But wasn't yet a chicken.
There was a man,
Selling chicks in a box.
He said, '2 for 1, but 3 for 2.'
I said, 'that's not bad,
Here's money for you.'
One was magenta,
The other was blue.
I know my chicken
You got to know your chicken
I know my chicken
You got to know your chicken
I know my chicken
You got to know your chicken
I know my chicken
One day, the blue one went away.
The other grew up fuckin' well.
She was noisy every night.
I had always chicken-bite.
Then I met a lover
One night, she made me dinner.
Licking finger, I wondered
Where she got the chicken.
Then I met a lover.
One night, she made me dinner.
Licking finger, I wondered
Where she got the chicken.
I know my chicken
You got to know your chicken
I know my chicken
You got to know your chicken
I know my chicken
You got to know your chicken
I know my chicken
You got to know your chicken
Spare the rod and spoil the chick
Before you go and shit a brick.
Spare the rod and spoil the chick
Before you go and shit a brick
Spare the rod and spoil the chick

She went to college to study anatomy
I followed her father's butchery
We got 2 babies. is it cool?
