In 2018, elleng posted a story and recipe for black eyed peas

and I have made them every New Year since then. I am still reeling from the loss of her presence but I am sure to be thinking of her forever.

The recipe is included further down the thread if you can't get behind the paywall. Mine cook faster than the recipe says so I do not soak overnight. They are delicious the next day too.

Cheers, elleng, wherever you are!

Also from a recipe handed down and that I make in celebration of the memory of the brother-in-law who perfected it and gave it to me.

Love to elleng and all who are mourning. I am grateful for you and for the ones who have gone before.

I do a version of Hoppin' John that is meatless but very spicy. It includes the greens in the dish, also. And you can't forget the cornbread!

5. It sounds perfect to have some greens - collard, mustard, kale, etc. - in the pot.
