Going out for storm supplies; not sure when I'll get back.
on edit:
Shrimp salad. Tossed greens (spinach, red tip) with thinly sliced cucumbers, yellow peppers, scallion and onion. Orange Bang Bang dressing, a vinaigrette with freshly squeezed oranges, grated ginger, agave, vegetable oil.
A cup of roasted red pepper soup which turned out to be a bit too hot, so I'm hoping to tame it down by adding couscous and roasted cherry tomatoes. Sweet onion crackers.
Hot meatball sandwich using Beyond meatballs, topped with brown sugar tomato-mustard glaze.
Cherry kombucha.
Maybe a chocolate square for dessert.

(36,923 posts)I'm on soft-ish food until I see my dentist next week. Busted a filling and the remaining tooth is muy thin. Anyway, classic red beans and rice, Cajun style. The beans are simmering and the pot smells Cajun!

(11,761 posts)I was going to just buy pizza dough at the supermarket, but this was less expensive. I added peppers, kalmatta olives, garlic, artichoke hearts, and extra cheese.

(7,498 posts)We're expecting 10" of snow, starting tomorrow night. I thought I'd be "smart" and hit the store this afternoon. Seems like everyone else thought the same way. The entire row of bananas were gone. No rotisserie chickens! Bell peppers and other peppers of all kinds and colors, gone. Hamburger down to a few packages, at the highest end of the prices ($11.00) for a pound of 93% lean. Expecting NOT to move out of the house until sometime early next week, I bought a lot of ingredients to make several different meals and snacks (like quesadillas, tacos, etc.) Even bought the fixings to make my own recipe for chicken salad sandwiches. The grocery store selection I bought last week tastes like they pureed the chicken and veggies into a thin gruel to spread on bread... IOW, YUK!
The store was so packed, moving thru the aisles was like waiting for a green light on a rush hour street. Two hours later I finally made it to the checkout, where the checker told me she, personally, had waited on some people who'd come back to the store today 3 and 4 times.
Kids are gone to search the other grocery store (and finally, Walmart, if necessary) for the chicken. My back is breaking, my stomach aches at the $350 grocery bill for us, the cats, and the dog. A can of Campbells chunky soup was less expensive than a can of decent dog food! My nerves are so much on edge, I'm trying desperately not to get sick to my stomach. I'm *very* short and slight, and don't do well in crowds of normal sized people... especially when my back and my fibro are acting up.
So, after buying all that stuff... the cooking waits until tomorrow. Tonight, it's sloppy joes and french fries (SMDH).

Holy hell! 1st available delivery date is Tuesday the 27th! Wth?
So I called & informed Walmart. The rep sounded horrified & gave me a $15 gift code for next order.
I have plenty of food here. I needed gallons of water because when it's below freezing for a few days, water mains break. A lot.
14 days of severely cold weather on the way.
Stay warm & safe, V & All!

(7,498 posts)here in this house and little city. We've lived here a few years, but the worst winter weather (especially ice storms) we went through were in Kansas City. During an "October Surprise" tree limbs took out electric lines AND transformers, and we were without power for almost 3 weeks. We ate a lot of cold food, as well as fast food. Our bed at the time was a waterbed; you can imagine how THAT felt, so we made camping beds in the front room by the fireplace. Our yard now is filled with trees, including bradford pears. If the snow that falls is the heavy, wet kind, I figure we're going to be out of electricity. I guess we could hope for the soft, fluffy kind... but when did things ever work out for the best in this kind of situation?! (LOL)
