Cooking & Baking
Related: About this forumI had a temporary crown fitted yesterday and need soft food suggestions for the next 2 weeks.
I had watery overcooked oatmeal, yogurt with blue berries and Alley made me some vanilla custard.. Tomato soup tomorrow, then what?
fix different types of eggs, scrambled , fried, hard boiled. (if you like eggs or aren't allergic) You can also fix a baked potato, or a baked sweet potato, Mac & cheese,
banana , smoothies you could add some protein powder to it, ice cream, jello,
puddings, pancakes lol , cottage cheese with crushed pineapple on top, baked fish would be soft, applesauce, ravioli , all sorts of different soups
There really are a lot of soft foods you can choose from plus just be careful and don't chew on that side.

(53,475 posts)You can purchase temporary crown cement at the drug store. It will hold a crown on for up to six hours.
Glad my work is finally finished. Hope my dentist enjoys his new yacht.

Squash soup....tapioca pudding....ice cream if the thing isn't sensitive...stew of veggies whirred in the food processor to make a thick soup...

(28,501 posts)Really, anything with pasta cooked well beyond al dente. Spaghetti with sauce and meatballs or ground beef, noodles with alfredo sauce. Ratatouille or any steamed veggies, steamed to limpness. This is the story of my life as I need a root canal but have no insurance and no money.

(2,282 posts)* spaghetti
* lasgana, tortellini, ravioli, etc.
* linguini with clam sauce
* macaroni and tomatoes (a favorite at our house esp when feeling under the weather)
* stews
* crock pot chicken or pot roast. Slow cooking makes meat * veggies very tender.
* soups (hard to go wrong with homemade potato or split pea soup)
* beans & rice & corn bread
* chilli
* pork and green chilli
* beef stroganoff
* broiled fish (particularly something tender like halibut)
* pancakes/waffles and eggs
* omelets
* quiche
* frittatas
* meatloaf
My wife has had a bunch of those temp crowns. She has never had any problem as long as she stayed away from hard/chewy foods. Just stay away from the Sugar Daddy candy

(146,218 posts)Also rice pudding (TJ's brand is great) and smoothies.
Creamed soups are a big hit around here. If you don't have a stick blender, this might be the time to get one. You can puree just about any soup.
Soft cheeses.
Best of luck!

(32,093 posts)Overnight oatmeal, if you don't mind a cold breakfast--one part each: old-fashioned oatmeal (not "quick" or steel-cut), Greek yogurt, milk (soy, etc. are fine). Place them in a jar, cover, give it a good shake, and put in the refrigerator overnight. Sweeten with sweetener of your choice. You can also add fresh or dried fruit, nuts, sunflower seeds... You can use regular yogurt, too. Just add less milk.
You can also make a delicious soup with pureed roasted vegetables. Here's a pretty good recipe, but there are a bunch of them out there:

Any combination of root veggies would work just fine. You can add leeks, onions, and/or garlic to the mix, as well. And, your favorite herbs, too. I usually just wing it with whatever is on sale at the time. If you want a little protein, some crumbled feta, cotija, or goat cheese goes really well in it.
Quiches, eggs, and frittatas are all pretty soft. I would think that fish and sea food would also be soft enough. Polenta is also pretty versatile, as well as being soft. You can eat it with some tomato gravy and cheese.

(2,351 posts)I make this with a few changes. I nix the dill for one thing. And instead of only putting cheese on top, I put half the potatoes, shred some more cheese, then the rest of potatoes and top with more cheese. Crumbled and cooked Jimmy Dean sausage and green onion tops layered in the middle makes this a full meal. When my guy first got his dentures, this was all he would eat. Best wishes.
