I Came Up With an Appliance Garage

I love my big mixer and my big Thermomix. But they're heavy.

Even though the Thermomix is stored right below the counter where I work with it, I still dread getting it out. If I get it out, I tend not to put it away, thus leaving the counter looking cluttered.

So I had this empty armoire and it's right around the corner from the kitchen in my dining room. It has a slide-out counter.

Light bulb moment.

I installed a shelf on the top and moved the electrical plug-in a couple inches (oh, OK, the RG moved it for me and also helped install the shelf). Then I put the appliances in there and plugged them in.

I tried it out for a week to see if it would work. It does!

I just take the mixing container off and into the kitchen and put what I want in it. Then I take it back to the armoire. After whatever I'm making is mixed, it's into the dishwasher and back to the armoire.

I do find I need the top shelf to be somewhat clear as I might need to put a spoon there, so I added a spoon rest.

Problem solved and I only spent a few dollars for some shelf supports (I already had the shelf).

I don't have a spare armoire sitting about... but I might be able to come up with a usable variation.

Thanks!

We were given a large bunch of bookcases a few years back, and I have them tucked in all over the house, but really don't have them all in use, so I brought two out to my work area and turned them on their side to use as desk surface for an art studio space. They are working beautifully.

Love your garage! Great idea. ?

While I don't often think of winning a big lottery jackpot (which would be tough to do since I buy a Powerball ticket maybe twice per year), one of my fantasies is to have a house that has a butler's pantry off a gourmet kitchen with enough room for appliences and food stuff.

My fantasy does not include a house that requires any full-time staff, just a cleaning person that comes in once a week to clean and do the laundry.

Ah, to be a 1%er.

Actually, the armoire is around the corner from the butler's pantry instead of the kitchen. I just didn't want to say that because having a butler's pantry sounds, well, you know.

Not being a 1 per center either, having a gourmet kitchen has been a 3-year renovation. I didn't take out any loans to do it, either, so it's been a long, slow process. A lot of people would never have put up with it.

It wouldn't have been a gourmet kitchen if it weren't for the RG, who is a professional in the gourmet food field. He had, a few years back, put in a kitchen for his employer that cost nearly a million dollars. I know, how does a kitchen cost that much? Well, for starters, it was over one of NYC's top restaurants. The purpose of the kitchen was to entertain major clients and also to show off their product. Well, this had a major effect on how we had to do the kitchen.

I have the perfect observation point for the rest of your fantasy, though. Across the private road and right outside where I have my computer and watch TV is a two-per center. Not a one per center but quite likely a two per center.

I get to watch the maids come in once a week.

One of the two-per centers went out to shovel snow. I think two shovels-full took place and the next thing I knew, a team of shovelers came in and did the job. Meanwhile, we are still hobbling around over snow-covered paths and climbing snowdrifts that are based in solid chunks of ice over at the 98 per center place.
