Related: About this forumwhat's for dinner - thursday, april 9
it was supposed to be leftover pork roast, but holy crap did the husband ever annihilate dinner last night.
i was so excited when i got home and he told me he'd made lemon pepper tequila pork roast and roasted sweet pots and acorn squash. well, it turned out to be shoe leather and baby food with a few incinerated cloves of garlic.
he's a great cook and i've learned a lot from him since we've been together, but man oh man, he blew this one. i've made a few inedible meals, but that pork roast beat them all.
i'm not mad at him at all, i'm just going to give him a hard time about it for a bit
the cupboards are pretty bare, so i either have to go grocery shopping after work or pick something up on the way home.
happy thursday!

(16,296 posts)It took me decades to unlearn the mistakes my parents taught me about cooking and , in general, food. Patience and tell him to not overdo the spices - men and garlic can be magical, but in most cases a disaster.

(24,146 posts)nothing was as bad as the polenta incident. my mom always puts a raw egg in the mashed potatoes for a bit of richness and i figured i'd see if the same concept would work with polenta.
the egg didn't scramble, it hard boiled. i am absolutely repulsed by hard-boiled eggs, but i gave it a brownie bite husband took one bite, looked at me and told me to throw it away.

(2,016 posts)I'm not sure when I'll be leaving work today - could be 4 hrs later than usual. So, I keep a pizza in the freezer for these occasions. I always add extra veggies and pepperoni, and additional spices, since most/all frozen pizzas are seriously lacking (but we all knew that).
Oh well, maybe tomorrow night for cooking...
ps: Fizz - good that you have a sense of humor about hubby's pork roast. I always try to laugh at my F*-ups!

(24,146 posts)we blew through ours early last week, so it's time to stock up.
my first kitchen disaster still cracks me up. the first time i made matzo balls, i boiled them rather than simmered. they came out the consistency of a cue ball and my dad, bless his heart, ate them

(146,218 posts)I had a serious disaster last night as well. Sausages made locally had good flavor but had gristle and cartilage in them. The pasta was terrible and the pesto sauce inadequate to make it ok. Ugh.
Tonight, pork chops with a mustard/cider sauce and glazed carrots.
I think we are going to a luau tomorrow, if they are not sold out.

hope you can make it to the luau

Phentex
(16,334 posts)I love to roast them but I am too hot to use my oven right now. I also like to split them and saute in a pan with bacon crumbles. Yum!
