You may find this hard to believe, but I'm going to try the rosti yet again! Sure enough, the RG's was way better than mine. He told me how he did his, so I'm going to try his version.
I also have some spinach tortellini I just got at WF, so I think I'll make it up in cream sauce.
And what would dinner be without a tossed salad!? Especially when I have fresh greens.

(29,098 posts)He ran into our local Safeway a few days ago and got sucked in by one of those five dollar Friday "deals" So I now have a tray of about a gazillion heavily breaded chicken nuggets swimming in gelatinous bastardization of General Tsao sauce....
My plan for these is to try to remove excess goo and heat them with some cabbage and serve over some rice noodles.
Wish me luck.

(106,886 posts)Potatoes, broccoli, carrots, bok choy, leeks, fennel and garlic. Chunks of tilapia and fresh grated ginger, olive oil, rice wine vinegar. Room temp. Came out pretty good.

(14,733 posts)I really ought to look into what you can do with dandelion greens some time, I mowed down a bumper crop today.
It was also a mildly wildlifey day, had to keep the dogs on the patio the first trip out this morning, so they wouldn't harass the possum I saw moving across the back lawn just before sunrise, then later drank some coffee while watching a mouse dart in and out of some weeds along the patio fence to snag birdfood that had dropped. Cherries are looking good, but they always do at this point. The brown rot comes in later, usually just before I can actually start harvesting them and doing anything useful with them. On the plus side, though, it looks like the bush cherry has a lot of fruit coming in this year, and it hasn't had any trouble with the brown rot in the last few years since I planted it.

(35,668 posts)I always make it in the spring. It is loaded with Vitamin C and other nutritional goodness. I don't have many dandelions, though--only about 8 on my whole property.
If I had more, I'd dig them up and roast the roots, as dandelion tea made from the roasted roots is also very good for one's health.
I was going to buy some the other day, but a box was $9, so I decided I'd check a few other sources.

(14,733 posts)I haven't taken a census, but I've easily got hundreds in the front lawn, and scores in the back. I've always heard that for salads, you want them first thing, when the leaves are still small and young and more tender. My lawn is maybe 2/3 grass, 1/3 dandelions and small white and purple violets and white clover. I actually bought some red clover seed to spread, although mostly to spread in future garden areas.

(35,668 posts)that's been used on the lawn, I'd dig those roots up and roast 'em. Maybe try digging up a couple to see how difficult it is; then decide if you think it's worth it.
I find dandelion diggers helpful
I've been digging up crabgrass. Now that certainly is not edible, but the experience of digging up is not as bad as it sounds. For example, I kind of enjoy tracking the root. I feel like the "crabgrass detective."

(14,733 posts)And I use an electric lawnmower, to avoid even gas and oil fumes or leaks settling into the soil or onto the lawn. I'd probably still avoid the ones nearer the house, though. It's a home from the 60s, and probably had leaded paint on it when it was built, that's been subsequently scraped down onto the ground during repaints.

Went to a great little local place for lunch - Huevos Rancheros and a great carne asada tora.
Back to the boat tomorrow and have 3 days to eat everything we have. Anything else will go to the neighbors and the ladies at the laundry.
Keep working on that Rosti!
