What's for Dinner, Tues., June 9, 2015

I don't know if we're going out for dinner or what, as the RG is coming in from Hawaii and I don't know what time it will be for him. Six hours difference, right?

So if we go out, it will be Portuguese, meaning I will have chicken francaise and shrimp.

If we stay home and he falls asleep early, then it will be a salmon cake and salad for me alone.

I stopped on my way home from a job interview (for a July teaching assignment), and bought a few things at a specialty market. Unfortunately, I tasted them on the way home and they leave a lot to be desired. Last time I'll shop there.

But I got the job! Hired on the spot! And doing just what I love to do, too.

Yipppeee!

Always good to hear someone getting work these days.

Tonight for us was grilled cow with mac and cheese.

And, in light of my desire to use some of the raspberries for ice cream sauce/syrup, I bought some ice cream salt and spent a sweaty half hour digging through boxes, and found my (hand cranked) ice cream churn that's been sitting idle for a decade and a half plus.

and will smear it over some grilled chicken left over from Sunday. Can't believe the basil has jumped up so high already! We are also having lima beans and potatoes with peppers/onions left over from Sunday. I did create a new salad with cherry tomatoes, broccoli, carrots, cauliflower, scallions & yelllow pepper.

We harvested our first yellow squash from the garden today. A total of 2 small straight-neck squashes. We had excessive rain in April with delayed planting due to rain. During May, our garden suffered from a month-long drought through the entire month. We finally started getting a bit of rain around the 1st of June and have gotten enough to make California jealous, but not enough to sustain what has always been the norm for north Georgia. Weather patterns are a-changing.

i got caught at work until 1130, so i grabbed some chicken fingers and fries from one of my dives (best fries i have ever had. hand cut and double fried). of course, i had to have a beer while i waited. the food was as tasty as ever and there's enough for the husband when he gets home from work tomorrow.
