(2,125 posts)Soup with pumpkin sounds yummy. I try to eat pumpkin whenever I can because it's healthy but I love it too.
Tonight's menu is turkey chili and jalapeno, scallion and cilantro cornbread.
My grateful thought for today: I love that canned veggies now have those pop-top lids. Whenever I made my chili or spaghetti sauce, I used to have to line up at least a half dozen cans and have a long session with the electric can-opener. Not anymore. Just pop them open and pour. It's the little things in life that mean so much.
Bon apetit.

ps: No way could I find dashi (dried bonito flakes) today, after 6 grocery stores. Oh well, I'm off to Pasadena tomorrow anyway, so I'll do a little shopping while there.

The first of the season's pineapples arrived in the local grocery, so I picked one up to mail off in a box of goodies for some friends who live out away from any big grocery stores. They usually don't see them for a month or two after they start showing up around here. I'm just hoping the post office isn't so rough that they break open the jam jars and then refuse to deliver the box because it's leaking, as they've done off and on in the past.
