Related: About this forumI'm Looking To Buy Xanthan Gum And I Only Need A Small Amount....
I was only able to find an 8oz package and it cost $12.99 at Whole Foods. I will wind up not using most of it and probably have to throw it out as it gets old from sitting around in my pantry.
Does anyone here know where I can purchase a small jar or small amount of it? I live in the Chicago area. Any help would be appreciated.

(3,702 posts)I think at a couple of our local co-ops where they sell spices and herbs in bulk I have seen Xantham gum in jars so you can get just the amount you need. I live near Mpls, but I would assume it would be the same at other locations.

(111,256 posts)I've often wished they sold it at the bulk spice counter so I could get half an ounce at a time but for some weird reason known only to them, they don't.
It's my understanding that it has a very long shelf life if kept in a sealed container.
Is there any workaround in the recipe that calls for it?

(15,090 posts)Ours sells a bunch of unusual baking ingredients. If not, King Arthur Flour carries it in two-ounce packages, although with shipping, you're not realty going to save much.

(4,742 posts)Though it's $7 for the small bag...bulk xanthan is so cheap that buying smaller quantities usually isn't much less expensive than the half-pound tub.

It does keep forever, I nicked a pint from work in 2011 and I'm still using it.

(32,083 posts)It's about the size of a packet of yeast, and you can buy it online from the company for 49 cents. I have seen it in the "gluten free" section of some conventional grocery stores, as well. The company is out of Effingham, IL, so I assume you can find this brand in the Chicago area.
