My everyday go-to is Eight O’Clock whole bean, I grind it at home

For an occasional treat, Peet’s Big Bang

Or a locally roasted one from the Youngstown Coffee Co.

Peet’s Major Dickason blend (whole bean, ground myself and pressed).

Now, on the rare occasion I want coffee, I go to a local place called Open Mike’s that roasts their own beans. They have a nitro cold brew on tap that is amazing.

Beans from Sweet Maria in CA.

tend towards Ethiopian, Kenyan, Rwandan, Burundi and Guatamala

Peets and Starbucks overroast, but it is a matter of taste for sure.

Generally speaking the darker coffee is roasted, the lower the acidity which some prefer.

Coffee is a perishable product and the smell and flavor compounds from lighter roasts are more volatile. Coffee will have a more consistent taste and smell with darker roasts. Lighter roasts are less forgiving in terms of age after roasting

I roast to a city to full city, no oil on the beans, and use within a week. Starbucks and Peets taste like cigar ash to me now.

...so to speak.

Dark roasts have more appeal for chain coffeehouses because it makes it easier for them to provide a consistent taste over a longer period from roast to consumption.

Personally I mail order my coffee from artisan coffee roasters that ship immediately after roasting. I prefer roasts in the medium range.

I’ve done it in a variety of different ways.

That’s a whole different skill set that’s every bit as complex as coffee preparation can be. I have considered getting a professional grade sample roaster, but I just have too many other irons in the fire right now.

and we sold the giant house...too big with the youngest now in college...my daughters go to YSU... which has a higher rated business school than Ohio State or Kent. We still have a house we bought in Austintown for the girls to live in when we moved to Cleveland too far to commute to college and rents are terrible and college costs if you live there though the roof. I really like that area. Praying the GM will commit to putting something in Lordstown.

going to switch to Main campus as she could only do two years in her major in Warren ...Main is like a palace...beautiful campus...gorgeous housing. But in the end she didn't want to leave her cat. And my brother told me how great YSU business was. She is an accountant.

One of the Peet's blends ( Major Dickason) mixed with an organic Peruvian Decaf. A combination of bold and subtle flavors. Drinking it black with no sugar as the Doc recommends means I can appreciate the full taste.

TJ is sleeping as tonight is a work night for her. FLFC is sleeping just because he can. Tough day for me so far, I may return to bed, but I see there are fixings ready for a BLT. A dilemma is at hand.

Drinking awful coffee.

I was a radio/electronics tech in the Air Force and every maintenance bay at every base I ever saw had a 50 cup electric urn in the back along with some dry nondairy creamer, some clumped up sugar and a grody ass spoon to stir it all up.

Ya know what, if it's hour 11 of a 12 hour midshift, and for the whole shift the coffee has been simmering until thickened?

HEAVEN

Add a teaspoon of sugar and it was life giving ambrosia.

Normal coffee is absolutely better in every possible way, but I just don't love it

Not a coffee snob, but it makes a way better cup than our Mr. Coffee did. Hotter and fresher because the pods are sealed. Yeah, those little pods are destroying the environment. Sorry but that’s a drop in the bucket compared to, say, the many bags of used diapers my granddaughter generates.
Eight O’Clock, Tully’s Hawaiian, Original Donut Shop all good. Still trying different brands.

I roast them over eucalyptus coals for three days.
I grind them in a granite mortar and pestle.
