which is generally done for one of two reasons: first, if there are picky kids who need to be conned into eating something besides cookies and second, if you're throwing a dinner party and want to distract your guests from the fact that you didn't splurge on lobster or prime rib.

I save myself the effort and just do the damned pie. The local Pueblo restaurant does apple pie with a cornbread crust that is to die for. I'll be in heaven when I figure that one out.

I'm going to try them for a friend's supper invitation of Friday. He says nobody makes apple pie like his mom (and I agree with that), but I bet he's never seen anything like this.
