Related: About this forumMade my roast turkey this afternoon.
Here's how:
Whole turkey pre-Thanksgiving cost $2.99 a pound, about $20 or more.
Today (Saturday), turkey PARTS (wings, thighs) on sale for 49 cents a pound. I bought five packages, each between 79 cents and $1.25, for a total of $6.50.
Roasted the turkey parts, removed meat, and will put bones and then some in a pressure cooker to make kick-ass stock.

(6,214 posts)and I hate turkey cooked in regular oven. First you have to keep basting the turkey and turn it a few times. And it is never evenly cooked and meat is on dry side. In the rotisserie, it was set it and forget it. 2 hours later it was always fully cooked moist meat and crisp skin outside. So this year it was deli turkey slices

What difference does one day make? I read a number of posts around here that said TG would be celebrated on Saturday.

(11,390 posts)It started when we moved to California 40 years ago: neither of us have family west of the Mississippi, and with both of us working trying to get anything done for Thursday was a lot of trouble. So we celebrate on the day of our choice: it's a lot more relaxed.
Just finished canning the last of the stock made from yesterday's turkey carcass, which should last for a while.
