What's for Dinner, Tues., Dec. 10, 2019

My favorite beet salad with crema Mexicana, dill, and lime juice as the dressing.

Barbecue pork sandwich.

Winter fruit salad for dessert. It has apples, pears, tangerines, cranberries, kiwi fruit, and pomegranate seeds. The dressing is maple syrup and lime juice.

Half of a pastrami Reuben sandwich.

Boston bib salad with red onion, cherry tomatoes, green olive slices, and walnuts with a vinaigrette dressing.

Mashed garlic potatoes.

Eggnog ice cream.

Red wine from a Michigan vineyard aptly called The Lazy Ballerina, (it refers to a type of trellis used in growing grapes). Apt because the Landlady(!) has a dress rehearsal for a NYC production of Tchaikovsky's The Nutcracker.

This production is called the Yorkville Nutcracker and it's presented at Hunter College in Manhattan by Dances Patrelle. The cast is professional, except for the kids! It's a beautifully produced annual presentation with gorgeous costumes and a spectacular set. The tale is twisted a touch so it takes place at Gracie Mansion (I think). The Landlady(!) has had a comedic role as the maid for many years but sadly, this may be her last as all ballet dancers' feet go to hell!

She does some really fascinating things. And she's a terrific cook! (Gotta stay on topic!)

Love poblanos, but never thought about combining them with havarti. It's such a good melting cheese. Bet it would be great with that seared chicken thigh. You've got all my favorite foods in that menu!

but I imagine I'll have to cut it up to eat it. I was going to make a roast pork but feel a little tuckered-out after cooking for Dad and Sis.

Dad and Sis got tortierre (a double-crusted meat pie) with mushroom/brown gravy and steamed carrots & broccoli.
