Do I need to get a new lid gasket for my pressure cooker if

1) I see a lot of steam escaping around the sides of the lid, and

2) The top isn't rocking, rattling after high heat for at least 10+ minutes.

check to make sure it isn't just twisted or something, but a gasket should be a cheap maintenance item for safety and function.

arrives, make sure your old one does not have a crack or twisted edge. Sometimes flipping the gasket will get you back in business until your replacement arrives.

We have had a gasket blow out,got lucky, know one close by,but, what a mess,Tomato Sauce Kitchen Paint Job.

But I'll add that I routinely change out the gasket and the little plug. As soon as I see any liquid or steam escaping at the side of the lid I stop using the pc and order a new set.

We live in an arid climate and my concern is that the gaskets get weak from drying out as well as use. So I won't risk a blowout. My family always used pressure cookers so I've never had any fear. I just err on the side of caution. Even when there's just a tiny bit of side steam I figure that the cooker won't perform as well as it can.

Recently I treated myself to a 23-quart pressure canner. A reaction to the virus. i was worried that if we had a power failure that lasted several days we'd lose the contents of our packed deep freeze. So I got the big guy. But I've had cold feet about using it for pressure canning. I plan to get used to using a pressure cooker with a gauge by making a huge pot of chicken soup with two chickens. A big batch that'll get frozen in small portions.

Good luck!
