I want to make potato soup but don't want to use dairy. Would oat milk work just as well?

(4,671 posts)Turned out to be as silky smooth as dairy. The plant-based people use raw cashews soaked, then blended smooth in their creamy salad dressings as well.

I imagine using a better "mashed potato" type of potato would help.
The small red potatoes I used turned out grainy without some milk and sour cream to beat them into submission, maybe a waxier potato would be better.
ETA- I just remembered that I also also used canola to fry up the leeks - Butter or lard would definitely help with the mouth feel as well.

(71,519 posts)lactose free milk or lactose free half and half which is available at whole foods. I tried non-dairy milk and other than coconut milk for Thai pumpkin soup and certain Thai dishes, I found it vile. I am lactose and gluten intolerant.
